Analytical Figure Drawing: Hands/Feet/Head/Composition

- Analytical Figure Drawing or a good command of form, perspective, and anatomy.

- Course Description:
This is the second Analytical Figure Drawing class offered through CGMA. As such, this course builds on the skills and information covered in the initial course, however challenges students to push those skills through the introduction of additional subject matter. In addition to covering parts not addressed in the first course (hand, feet, features, and drapery) this course will answer the basic question of "what to do with the figure?" This question will be put to the student through lectures on the execution/ use of tone and composition specifically.
Weekly individual feedback format: video critique.

- Week 1: Lecture: Introduction of teacher/ Goals of class/ Review. Lecture will be on the use and understanding of drapery.
Homework: 25 drapery studies. (Ea. Set of 5 should be done from a different historical period or culture). Choose 5 of your best gestures to submit for critique and instructor feedback. Drawings may be scanned in and submitted or submitted as digital files done in photoshop. You may also upload one or more for student feedback on the class blog. - Week 2: Lecture: Anatomy and Construction of the Hands.
Homework: 25 Hand drawings. Drawings should follow in class process. Choose 2 of your best to submit for critique and instructor feedback. - Week 3: Lecture: Anatomy and Construction of the Feet.
Homework: 25 Feet constructions. Choose 2 of your best to submit for critique and instructor feedback. - Week 4: Lecture: Development of the features and overview of the neck and facial anatomy.
Homework: 20 Head studies including the anatomy of the face and neck as well as the features. - Week 5: Lecture: Intro to Lighting / Adding light and shadow to the face.
Homework: 25 tonal studies focusing on the face. - Week 6: Lecture: Lighting the Figure.
Homework: 25 Figure studies with light and shadow. - Week 7: Lecture: Composition 1 — Structuring the image. Homework: 25 Composition breakdowns looking at Old Masters.
- Week 8: Lecture: Composition 2.
Homework: 25 Original arrangements.
- Week 1: Lecture: Introduction of teacher/ Goals of class/ Review. Lecture will be on the use and understanding of drapery.
